I've started a newsletter!
I'm Matthew Speiser, and I'm going to start emailing you more.
Hello, I’m Matt. But if you’re receiving this email, you probably already knew that. I’ve hand-picked you to be on the inaugural email list for my new Substack newsletter. A few questions you might have…
What is Substack?
Substack is the preferred online platform for writers looking to publish a subscription newsletter. It’s free for me and free for you, unless I turn on the paid subscription feature, which I won’t do unless somehow this newsletter really takes off and I can realize my dream of being rich AND a writer. In which case, you’ll be grandfathered in under the free pricing model—unless in this hypothetical future we’re somehow no longer friends. Then I’d be glad to take your money.
Why are you doing this?
Writing is my jam. I’ve been a professional content writer for 7+ years now, but what I really enjoy is creative writing with a humorful / satirical / absurdist bent. Nobody pays me to do that yet, so I do it for myself on my blog. But nobody can find the content on my blog (or at least that’s what they tell me), so to make it easier for everyone to read my latest work, I’m going to send it directly to your inbox via this newsletter.
What are you going to write about?
I don’t know! Whatever interests me on a week-to-week basis. Sometimes it’s the tyranny of capitalism, sometimes it’s charcuterie boards. The goal is for it to be enjoyable for you to read. Maybe it’ll even make you laugh. Maybe it’ll increase your opinion of me as someone of exceptional talent, wit, and intellect. It’s just as likely it’ll lower your opinion of me as some attention-seeking hack. Worst case, you forget about whatever you read 5 minutes later and continue about your day.
Anything else I should know?
I’ll aim to send one new piece of content a week (probably on Tues. or Wed.), but there’s always a chance I forget or am too busy.
Do you have any cool bowling pictures?
Well, since you asked…
I know you’re not as excited about this as I am, but I hope you enjoy it regardless!
Thanks for reading I'm Like You (but with a Substack)! Subscribe for free to receive new posts and support my work.
